Moony

When we were in Wales in 2008 we saw so many beautiful horses. Among them was Moony. Our focus is on breeding and with so many mares and fillies to choose from, I did not see any point in importing a gelding. Kate rode him and did perfectly. We drove him and he was easy to handle and clam in traffic. We learned, when Tom was offering him to some friends with children, that Moony had been driven in the summer by his prior owner and leased to a riding stable in the winter as a lesson horse. Tom’s friends did not purchase him and several days later I called Tom about him. It had finally hit me; Moony would be such a great horse to have. He is level headed and experienced for everything we want to do. He will never be pregnant when we want to show him. He will not be a goof ball during breeding season. He is a great example of his breed, the prefect PR horse and just what I needed to start riding again. Moony has proven to be everything we had hoped for and more. My “Moon Man” is teaching me to ride and drive. He is just what this breeding ranch needed. As an extra bonus our vet swears that he is teeth put him at only 7. 7/10

Traveler

We purchased Traveler in-utero. He was conceived in the UK, born in quarantine in Kentucky and now home in Colorado. We think he comes by his name honestly. When he was born we were surprised by his color because BE is black and white. Traveler has lots of roaning in his red and a marking like a juggling ghost on his right side. In 2008 we visited his popular sire Diesel, also red and white, known for his high stepping, ground covering gate as he “travels” down the road. He is very impressive. Traveler is now gelded and in training. He shows great promise as a Show gelding. He has very good conformation and is proving to be bright, athletic and willing. He and Katie put in an awesome, unrehearsed freestyle performance at the Oklahoma State Fair on ’09. We offer him for sale to the discriminating showman. We think his potential is unlimited. 7/10

Producer’s Strikes A Pose

On our first trip to Wales I fell in love with Tom Price’s stallion, The Producer. On my spring ’08 trip with Kate, one of my favorite of his mares, a mostly black Lottery Horse daughter, had just given birth to a very special Producer colt. He really caught our eye, not only because of his resemblance to his sire but because of his natural inclination to strike a pose every time he stood still. We just had to have him. Poser continues to pose and grows taller and more handsome every day. He has tested homozygous for the tobiano gene so all of his babies will be paint. We are confident that our Poser will add depth to our stallion line up and quality to our breeding program for as long as we have him. 7/10

Macintosh

Macintosh, out of Apple, was our youngest ’08 Hustler foal. Sometimes overshadowed by his older paternal brothers and sisters he is now coming into his own. He has, without a doubt, the prettiest head and ears on a Gypsy I have ever seen. He is also what we call a “pocket pony”, one who would be content being in your pocket all of the time, just like his mom Apple. Mac got very sick in early 2009 and we almost lost him. Once healthy, we had intended to geld him but despite being behind in growth, when Tom Price visited in July ’09 he suggested that we “run Mac on” for another year as a stallion prospect. Whether he will of will not make a stallion we still do not know but Tom’s eye is much more experienced than ours and Mac is definitely coming on. His ’09 full sister SSFR Anna, also named for a variety of apple, demonstrates what we now see as the quality of this cross. Watch for Macintosh in the show ring. 7/10

The Anchor Mare

We are proud and lucky to have been able to acquire The Anchor Mare, another amazing find at Tom Price’s. When we first met her we went through bag after bag of bread as Kate tried and failed to snag a bit of mane hair from her in the field. (With Tom’s help we were successful and now she comes to us right away for some love and a cookie.) We also learned about her history from Tom. Had she not had such an obvious anchor on her side, she probably would have been referred to as the Bacon Sandwich Filly, but that is a story we will get around to retelling later. Suffice to say, The Anchor Mare is an exceptional mare who was bred by the Vines. We believe that Anchor is at the top of the quality pyramid. She literally has it all. She is easy to handle and sweet, has loads of hair, little ears and head, a chunky body and correct, big boned legs to set it on. This year she produced a lovely embryo transfer filly, SSFR Bella, with The Hustler. We are live covering her with Teddy for a 2011 foal. Along with V. V. Voiletta, The Anchor Mare truly “anchors” our breeding program in the finest quality available, as promised here at Superior Stables. 7/10
